Rift Arena Server Rules
These rules apply to everyone on Rift Arena, on these forums and on the Rift Networks Discord. Playing here means you have read them and agree to them. Not knowing a rule is never an excuse.
Rules can change. Every addition, change or removal is posted in the Rules Update Logs thread with the date, so check there rather than relying on memory.

How punishments work
Every rule below has a tier. Staff pick a punishment inside that tier based on how bad it was, whether you have done it before, and whether you were honest about it. Serious cases can skip tiers entirely.

  • Tier 1 — Verbal warning, then a mute or a kick if it carries on.
  • Tier 2 — Temporary ban, normally 1 to 7 days. Repeat Tier 2 offences become Tier 3.
  • Tier 3 — Permanent ban. Any account made to get around it is banned on sight and the original ban becomes unappealable.
Punishments follow the account, not the character or the name. Renaming does not reset anything.

1. Respect and basic conduct
What it means: Treat everyone here as a person first and an opponent second. Skill level, rank, background, age, gender, accent, whatever — none of it makes someone fair game.
  • Not allowed: Slurs of any kind, hate speech, harassment, personal attacks, singling one player out over and over, mocking someone's voice or background.
  • Not allowed: "It was a joke" versions of any of the above. If it needs that excuse, it broke the rule.
  • Fine: Trash talk after you win a 1v1. Calling a play bad. Rivalry between regulars who both enjoy it.
Punishment: Tier 1 for heat of the moment. Tier 2 for targeting someone. Tier 3 for slurs and hate speech — no warning required.

2. Toxicity and targeting
What it means: Banter is part of a PvP server. Making someone's session miserable is not. The line is repetition and intent: saying something once in the moment is different from following a player round the lobby with it.
  • Not allowed: Spamming the same insult every round, hunting one player in FFA purely to grief them, trying to provoke someone into breaking the rules so you can report them.
  • Fine: "You're trash" after a round. Not fine: the same thing twenty rounds in a row.
Punishment: Tier 1, then Tier 2 if it continues after a warning.

3. Chat, voice and spam
What it means: Text chat and voice are shared spaces. Keep them usable.
  • Not allowed: Mic spam, soundboards, music through your mic, ear-rape, screaming into open voice, flooding chat, caps-lock walls, spamming reactions or reports.
  • Not allowed: Low-effort forum spam — the same word twenty times, duplicate threads, bumping for no reason.
  • Fine: Loud call-outs mid-fight. Celebrating a clutch. Asking for a 1v1 in chat.
Punishment: Tier 1 (mute), Tier 2 if it becomes a habit.

4. Names and impersonation
What it means: Your username is how everyone, including staff, identifies you. It has to be yours and it has to be clean.
  • Not allowed: Pretending to be staff, a developer, or another player. Copy-cat names ("Norma1" for "Normal"), fake staff tags, claiming powers you do not have.
  • Not allowed: Slurs, sexual content or hate symbols in usernames, titles or signatures.
  • Fine: Clan tags and stylised names, as long as nobody could mistake you for someone else.
Punishment: Forced rename plus Tier 1. Impersonating staff to get something out of a player is Tier 3.

5. Cheating, exploits and modified files
What it means: Anything that gives you information or an advantage the game does not give everyone else is cheating. Whether you "only used it a bit" does not matter.
  • Not allowed: Mod menus, aimbots, triggerbots, ESP or wallhacks, no-spread or no-recoil, speed or teleport hacks, macros or scripts that shoot or move for you, any injector or bypass.
  • Not allowed: Modified RPF or game files that remove recoil, remove bushes, trees or textures, brighten the map, or change anything the in-game /graphics menu does not offer. If /graphics cannot do it, you cannot do it.
  • Not allowed: Abusing a bug or glitch. Finding it once by accident is fine — using it again, or telling others how to, is exploiting. Report it in Technical Support instead.
  • Not allowed: Discussing, sharing or selling any of the above, including in Discord DMs. Helping someone cheat is treated the same as cheating.
  • Fine: Everything in the /graphics menu, crosshair overlays that add no information, FPS-improving settings that change nothing visible.
Punishment: Tier 3, permanent, first offence. Stats are reset and the ban applies to all Rift Networks servers.

6. Fair play in matches
What it means: The leaderboards and ranks only mean something if everyone earns them the same way.
  • Not allowed: Teaming in Free-For-All. Win trading, boosting or stat farming with friends or alts. Farming kills on AFK players.
  • Not allowed: Leaving a match to dodge a loss, or repeatedly quitting mid-round. Occasional disconnects happen; a pattern gets acted on.
  • Not allowed: VDM — using a vehicle as a weapon — in any game mode that has vehicles. Full-speed rams are banned in every competitive vehicle mode.
  • Not allowed: Leaving the playable area, hiding in unreachable spots or map holes to stall a round.
  • Fine: Playing to the mode's objective aggressively. Camping a strong position that is inside the map and reachable.
Punishment: Tier 1 for a first VDM or stalling incident, Tier 2 for repeat offences. Boosting and win trading: stats wiped plus Tier 2, Tier 3 for organised groups.

7. Advertising and self-promotion
What it means: This is not the place to grow something else.
  • Not allowed: Other servers, Discord invites, selling accounts, credits or services, spamming your channel in chat or on the forums.
  • Fine: Posting your own Rift Arena clips in Media & Highlights. Mentioning you stream, once, if someone asks.
Punishment: Content removed plus Tier 1. Advertising another server is Tier 3.

8. Your account
What it means: Everything done on your account is yours. Staff will not investigate who was "really" on it.
  • Not allowed: Sharing, selling, buying or giving away accounts. Using a second account to get around a punishment, vote twice, or pad stats.
  • Do: Use a unique password and turn on two-factor authentication on the forums. If your account is banned for something a friend did, the ban stands.
Punishment: Tier 2 for sharing. Ban evasion is Tier 3 for both accounts.

9. Privacy, threats and illegal content
What it means: Real life stays out of it.
  • Not allowed: Sharing anyone's real name, location, photos, IP, or private messages without their consent. Doxxing threats count the same as doxxing.
  • Not allowed: Threats of violence, swatting, DDoS threats, "I'll leak your info" — joking or not.
  • Not allowed: Sexual, gore, illegal or extremist content anywhere on Rift Networks.
Punishment: Tier 3, permanent, and reported to the platform where relevant.

10. Staff, reports and appeals
What it means: Staff are here to keep matches fair, not to argue in chat.
  • Do: Follow a staff instruction in the moment, even if you disagree. Take it up afterwards through a ticket or the forums.
  • Do: Report rule breakers with evidence — a clip, a screenshot, the time it happened — in the Player Reports board or a Discord ticket. "He was cheating, trust me" is not a report.
  • Not allowed: Arguing with or insulting staff in public chat, lying in a report, mass-reporting someone to troll, or repeatedly appealing the same decision.
  • Appeals: Every ban can be appealed once through a Discord ticket, except cheating and ban evasion, which are final. Be honest — an appeal that lies about what happened is closed on the spot.
Punishment: Tier 1 for arguing. False reports are Tier 2.

11. Common sense
Not everything can be written down. If something clearly hurts other players' experience and you would not do it with a staff member watching, do not do it. Staff can act on behaviour that is not listed here, and "it's not in the rules" is not a defence.

What we are trying to build
A clean, competitive arena where skill decides the round and nothing else does.
